For delegates travelling to Fiji in May 2027, Fiji Airways currently offers direct flights to Nadi from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, while Air New Zealand’s direct Nadi service operates from Auckland.

Air New Zealand also sells itineraries from Wellington, Christchurch and a wide range of regional New Zealand airports, but these generally connect through Auckland rather than operating non-stop to Nadi. For delegates travelling from provincial centres, Air New Zealand may therefore be the more convenient option, as the domestic and international sectors can be booked together as one journey through Auckland, rather than arranging separate flights to connect with a Fiji Airways service. Flight schedules for May 2027 remain subject to change, so delegates should check the airlines’ schedules when making their bookings.

Climate

Fiji enjoys a mild tropical climate averaging  29ºC  during the winter month of May.

Time Zone

Fiji is on the same time zone as New Zealand, so there is no time difference to factor into your travel plans.

Passport and Visa Requirements

New Zealand passport holders are granted a visitor permit valid for four (4) months on arrival.

The above visa is issued on arrival on the condition that the bearer holds:

• • A passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the intended date of departure from Fiji
  • Return or Outbound tickets
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for your stay in Fiji

Travel Insurance

We strongly advise that you purchase travel insurance when travelling internationally.

Money and Tipping

The local currency is the Fiji Dollar FJD ($).

Banks including ANZ, Westpac, Bank of Baroda, BSP and FDB have branches located throughout Viti Levu (Fiji’s main island).

Tipping is not encouraged in Fiji and is left to the individual to determine whether to make a gratuity.

Duty-Free Allowances

2.25 litres of spirits OR 4.5 litres of beer OR 4.5 litres of wine.

250 grams of cigarettes OR 250 grams of tobacco.

Dress Code

Dress is casual and informal throughout the islands. Light tropical attire such as golf shirts, short-sleeve shirts, summer dresses, T-shirts, shorts and slacks for evenings. The wraparound ‘sulu’ (sarong) is Fiji’s most distinctive form of dress. Modest dress is advised in towns and villages.

Sockets and Plugs

The electrical current in Fiji is 240 volts AC/50 cycles. Fiji has three pin power outlets identical to Australia and New Zealand. Some hotels and resorts offer universal outlets for 240v or 110v shavers.
